About
During my graduate studies at UBC, my research has focused on the lived experiences of migrants from diverse backgrounds, with particular attention to the learning that occurs through participation in social organisations—such as local communities, schools, and informal networks. My doctoral research explores how South Korean immigrant parents navigate the Canadian education system to support their adolescent children, drawing on sociocultural learning theories and employing critical ethnography. In addition, I currently serve as the research manager for a SSHRC-funded, transnational project that maps adult learning and education (ALE) systems in Canada and Germany. This multi-year project further examines how immigrants’ engagement in ALE and settlement programs relates to their broader integration outcomes (https://ale-in-isi.ubc.ca/). Through my research, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of migrant learning and integration, while informing educators and policymakers in designing more inclusive and responsive educational practices and social services.
